Another busy week!

Click on this link:  Video highlights from the week

PreSchoolers have been learning about spiders and insects.  We made some cool ladybugs using the special rock we found on our outdoor hike.

PreSchoolers enjoyed going on a "color hunt" using our homemade binoculars.

this week, the kindergarteners studied the pond water sample that we took from our  Bauer Park field trip.
We found: duckweed, a dragonfly nymph, isopods, some kind of worm and some other tiny critters in the water.  We compared the pond water to tap water.  Kindergarteners enjoyed sharing their findings with the first graders.

The first graders have been working on their final engineering challenge for the school year. The challenge: Using what they have learned about sound and light, they are designing a device which will allow them to communicate without words to a person at least 2 meters away from them.  The students have been learning about the evolution of communication including Morse Code, which is coming in handy for some.

Thank you to Emmy’s dad, Mr. Liu for come in and sharing his experience and expertise with bees!

This HUGE uninvited guest, also known as Fred, prompted a spontaneous lesson for PreSchool and Kindergarteners together.  According to our research, we think he is a wolf spider.  He now resides comfortably under a big tree OUTSIDE, on campus.

PreSchool: From Giants and Spiders to Courage and Cookies

We have been busy in PreSchool STEAM!
Jack and the Beanstalk
After reading the many versions of the story, we got busy...planting seeds, looking at life cycles, transplanting seedlings, counting seeds, measuring plants, working with scale - our size vs. the Giant, engineering, planning, designing, painting, reading, comparing, painting, and more!

The Preschool Students are learning about insects and spiders.  We learned this song:
sang to the tune of "I'm a little teapot."

I'm a little insect with 6 legs,
We don't have a heart but we all lay eggs.
My body has 3 parts, yeah, 3 not 10,
A THORAX a HEAD and an ABDOMEN!

During STEAM time we hiked the TCS campus in search of items to create our "Spider-arium"
We found a spider and put it in the Spiderarium for observations.  It spun a web!

Choose Love!

The whole TCS community is adopting the "Choose Love" movement by Scarlett Lewis and PreSchool is no exception!

We learned the 1st of the 4 ingredients in Choosing Love which is COURAGE!
We learned how to take a "brave breath" which might come in handy while learning about spiders!

We measured, mixed and baked up some yummy
"Choose Love" sugar cookies.

We learned a brand new song by Jill Nesi, not yet released! The song is all about our emotions.
